Smith. This work was commissioned by Phi Beta Mu and beautifully captures the legacy of one of Alabama’s most influential and cherished composers.
The piece, written by Dr. Larry R. Blocher, Ph.D., was premiered by the Alabama All-State Red Band under his baton. This exceptional performance marked the beginning of what is sure to become a treasured addition to band repertoires nationwide. A recording of the premiere performance is available, showcasing the emotional depth and musical artistry of this composition.
In a heartfelt gesture to honor Robert W. Smith’s memory and inspire music educators across the state, Dr. Blocher has generously made the score, parts, and recording of There Is a Season available at no cost to all band directors in Alabama. This gift underscores the spirit of collaboration and support that is central to Phi Beta Mu’s mission.
